Threshil 25th 1241 T.S:
Barry, Charlotte, Chase, Meryl Praline, Yurina, Thaydrin and, Alda Reconveined outside of the entrance to the Dwarf hold. While the sat rested and plotted their next move a sound of, hasted steps and, the rusting of armored things in pursuit echoed from the caves entrance. Barry moved to investigate, as he roundeda corner a small goblin ran headlong into his furry chest and knocked itself over, after a breif scuffle he realized that the Goblin was Gregory. Stacey and Jon were in pursuit but relented when they saw that Gregory had stopped.
Stacy explained that Gregory had escaped her watch and she was forced to pursue. Gregory proclaimed that he only fled because he needed to find proof of his citizenship and wouldn’t leave until he found it. Reluctantly Stacy Agreed to ‘allow’ Gregory to stay so long as he agreed to stay within her sight at all times.
Jon, who had been standing watch had been wounded when he was ambushed by several stragglers goblins, the 9 horses he had been watching panicked and fled, to who knows where. His assailants however did not manage to escape. Thaydrin offered to keep watch with him incase more chose to sneak up behind them.
The Group decided to venture once more into the Dwarf hold, although to Yurinas dismay and protests. Deciding that too large a party would draw attention they decided to leave Meryl, Alda, Jon (who was more than relieved), Thaydrin, Stacy, Gregory. Gregory refused and hopped on Barry’s back insisting that he be allowed to continue. Stacy stated that she would be following as well due to their green friends insistence and her duties.
And so the party entered the hold, they passed the breached wall which they had previously explored and continued on to a central room containing four paths. Chase, surveyed for signs of track finding that the rightmost path had the heaviest traffic. After a short deliberation the party followed that path, they quickly encountered several decrepit unlocked doors which opened to reveal a disused dinging hall full of empty tables lined with dust and grime. There was some evidence of goblin activity here most notably the barricaded door at the north side of the hall. The group investigated the door noting a stage fouls smelling alcoholic liquid seeping through its base and decided to choose a different path.
The rest of the group walked to the far side of the hall and began to exit, all except Barry. Barry’s curiosity got the better of him and he opened the barricaded door, investigating what lay behind. He found a large room lined with casks of, what he presumed to be, alcohol. Many were ruptured and the floor was coated in their smelling sticky contents, the brave bear lumbered on to investigate further. As he passed several of the casks malevolent forms took shape, rising out of the casks in a haze of fumes. The strange alcohol creatures attacked, and Gregory (who was still riding on Barry s back) screamed in terror.
The battle was difficult the creatures seemed to ignore armor and merely needed to touch to wound. Their touch Brought about a weakening intoxication causing the recipient to rapidly lose vitality. Their touch also opened horrible gashes causing painful bleeding. They party managed to dispatch the creatures, but Barry and Chase suffered rather serious wounds. Even after being healed by the wand they were still left in a weakened state.
The party pressed on, exploring the remains of a kitchen which appeared to have been plundered by the holds new inhabitants. They then rounded a corner to find some sort of lift like contraption and the lingering smell acrid of acrid smoke . After some searching the found a crank mechanism that they assumed could lower the platform.
With Stacy, Charlotte and, Gregory Moving the turnstile the rest of the group descended into the hole, Barry made sure that they had a sufficiently strong rope tied off at the top to climb up in case of trouble.
The group descended who what looked like a large warehouse that had seen much better days, debris were strewn across the whole of the room with shattered crate, shelves and barrels covering much of the floor. In the corner of the room sat a giant humanoid mass of junk that was a destitute inactive Golem. In the center of the room sat the still burning embers of a fir faintly flickering as they died. To the back shadows of the room sat a large pile of debris forming an almost bulwark like structure.
The party began to fan out to inspect the room, Praline and Barry approached the Golem while Chase surveyed the area, Yurina chose to hang back. Suddenly a goblin wearing a crown of what can only be described as junk, wielding a crystalline rod lept up onto the bulwark on the far side of the room, Yelling something in goblin. As he brandished the rod the Golem lurched to life.
A harrowing battle ensued as a score of goblins surged over the bulwark running headlong into Chase. Barry and, Praline were trapped against the far wall dodging the Golems heavy cumbersome blows. Praline landed a solid hit on the Golem only to find that it glanced off the Golems’ thick plating barely damaging it. The junk around the Golem seemed to swarm around it patching up the little damage that had been done. The “King” goblin continued to scream and wave the wand and the Golem seemed to lurch in response.
Chase was up to his neck in goblins and despite his vast array of tricks was being overwhelmed by the sheer number of foes. Blades flew form goblins grasp and bodies struck the floor as their feet were removed from under them but the goblins surged on.
Meanwhile Yurina was spotted trying to sneak around the side of the room and several goblins splintered off to attack her. Their assault forced her to withdraw back behind Chase and Barry.
Seeing that her attack were not effective against the Golem Praline instead tried to go directly for the head, She began he war-song and advanced on the Goblin leader.
The battle was not going well the party was badly injured and Praline could not seem to land a blow on the elusive Goblin leader, the Golems blows were unrelenting bringing her to the brink of collapse. Despite their best efforst both chase and Barry could not stem the tide of green that beset them, numerous blads stabbed finding the places their defenses did not cover. Yurina did her best to, but her skills were not well suited to open combat such as this , she skirted the fray unable to do much against the innumerable goblin hoard.
As the party was on their last legs reinforcements arrived, Charlotte and Stacy descended down Barrys’ rope briefly distracting the goblins with their presence. Charlotte charged into the fray to aid Chase, Barry and Yurina while Stacy and Gregory advanced to aid Praline. with a few choice insults slung by Gregory the Goblin “king” inexplicably forgot his immediate plight of a giant sword wielding battle goddess and angrily ordered the Golem to crush that insolent goblin atop the walking suit of armors shoulder.
Praline finally managed to land a blow on the Goblin “King” swiftly separating his head from his shoulders, with its controller dead the Golem slumped once again lifeless. The tide of the battle was turning the party was finally managing to quell the hoard. Barrys claws rent goblins asunder whole Chases’ halberd rent another in twain. Yurina managed to get behind several of the goblins and land several deadly precise blows. The battle ended with the last of the goblins fleeing to the corners of the room, moral sundered.
Barry impeaded one of the goblins by sitting on him as he made a dash for the rope, the goblin was promptly tied up. The other was cornered by Stacy, Chase, Charlotte, and Yurina ten feet into a junk pile. Chase drew his blade, holding the cold steel to the goblins throat, indicating that he should begin speaking . However as Praline ceased her war-song and with it the many blow which Chase had sustained seemed to all fall at one and he collapsed, Charlotte caught him before fell into the copious amounts of junk around them.
After healing the worst of their wounds they began the interrogation of their goblin hostage. With Gregory translating they received several interesting pieces of information.
- There were many more goblins deeper in the Hold
- More were arriving every day
- They were being commanded by a lady who was Tall, Pale, Had claws or long sharp nails and, Used Magic
- There was a ‘Big Nasty’ down there
- They took a large underground road to get to this place
- They were to wait for the scary people (presumably the army) to leave and then to start burning things ‘for fun’
While the majority of the party interrogated the Goblin, Praline figured out how the Golem rod worked, she managed to get the Golem to move. Another previously unseen goblin in the corner revealed himself and was promptly swept up in the Golems grasp, prisoner count 3. With the interrogation finished Chase lightly cut the goblin, very lightly scored the goblin with his blade, just enough to draw blood, then said a small prayer.
The group departed, surprisingly enough the Golem fit up the elevator, even more surprisingly it could bear the things weight. The Group demanded their captive lead them to the entrance to the deep-roads. He did so somewhat reluctantly. They passed an old distillery finding another set of stairs but after the goblins’ warning of “nasty things” down there the group decided to press on past it.
Not much farther down the hall they found the staircase. Noting it’s location and weakened state they decided against tempting death again. Chase insisted that they let the goblins return to their master but praline overruled any such notion declaring that they would be rehabilitated back at camp.
Map of the area’s explored:
The group departed back to Cento, goblin prisoner train in tow, or rather held aloft by the giant hulking golem now called “JUNK”.
Upon returning to the camp the group was brought to Mortimir Bismark, to whom they relayed the information that they had received by the goblins. A discussion was held at length, during which Yurina and Charlotte slipped out unnoticed. The news of this impending threat seemed to worry the Commander and he dismissed the party and began to mull over his options.
Bismark sent one of his bodyguards Elmorn with Chase to the Archivists tent in order to render payment. Damien informed them that he would requisition the pay and it should be ready the next day.
Praline when about getting JUNK to the smithy’s in order to get him repaired. The dwarf who greeted her seem estatic, and got to work right away, Praline relinquished the rod to him.
After being resolving the payment situation Chase when to the town church and was healed by father Andrew, he then when to the tavern where he met up with the rest of the group except for Barry who had decided that sleeping was more preferable at the time.
The group discussed a myriad of topics and a particular conversation seemed to strike a nerve with Yurina, who was already melancholy. She stormed out of the tavern. After those events the tavern quieted down. Elmorn showed up and carted off a heavily inebriated Charlotte. He eventually returned and had a bit of a conversation with Praline and, Stacy and Chase before the rest of the party retired for the evening.
Now the party sleeps awaiting the next move…
